Barbara is an Australian soprano who has sung as a soloist with organisations including Victorian Opera, Opera Australia’s Oz Opera, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Australian International Opera Company. Her work as a singer has led to performances in Australia, China, Dubai, Italy and the United Kingdom. She was the winner of the 79th Herald Sun Aria, as well as prize winner in the Australian Singing Competition, the Opera Foundation, German- Australian Opera and Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grants.
Barbara completed Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts and Masters of Music at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London UK under full scholarship. She also attended Lisa Gasteen’s Opera Summer School, which led her to study voice with the world renowned soprano.
As an instrumentalist, Barbara performed sax solo with big band on Channel Nine’s Pot of Gold at age eleven. She attended the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, performed with the Victorian Youth Marching Band, and at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics.
Barbara runs a vocal studio from Reservoir and Doreen, offering singing tuition to students of all ages and skill levels (beginner – advanced/professional). Students learn effective vocal and breathing technique to develop range, projection and resonance. Barbara also teaches interpretation of text, character and context to help you create a convincing performance style. All exam syllabi are taught (AMEB, ANZCA and VCE).
